Better UX for copying content that CANNOT be pasted in a new board

There is one particular thing with copy/pasting content from TaleSpire that sometimes might look like a bug. It is the fact that you can copy a large section of a board, bug if that goes over a certain treshold in size, then it can only be pasted on the same board. If you switch boards/campaigns, you get an error when trying to paste: “The contents of the system clipboard don’t seem to be something that TaleSpire can paste”.

It is throughoutly described by Chairmander in a reply here: https://feedback.talespire.com/p/copy-or-cut-content-above-30k-lost-entire-build

What Feature would you like to see included within TaleSpire?
Some sort of indication that I am copying a section too large to be pasted outside of the board I am currently in.

Ideas that come to mind:

  • displaying an alert (like the error when trying to paste) right after copying a section, explaining it is too large to be pasted on another board.

  • having a setting configuration to limit the selection box to not be able to expand to contain more than can be copy/pasted on another board (this is probably very hard to implement I guess?)

  • some visual indication once you select more content that you would be able to paste on another board - maybe changing the color of the selection box, or displaying an alert (could also be hard to implement if the size of the content is not known until the ctrlv command is issued)

What situations would this Feature be useful?
This issue has happened multiple times with me when trying to copy/paste content from one board to another, and up until now I just thought it was an annoying bug - I’d repeatedly try many times to paste the same section, and then either give up working on maps for the day or go and try with a different/smaller section of the board.

Having a better UX would prevent the need to switch boards to test if the content you copied is pasteable, and also make it clear that this is not really a bug.
