Improving visibility for players during battles
First, hello to the Talespire dev team ! Thanks for the wonderfull platform you’re currently working on ! English is not my first language, but I’ll try to be as clear as possible.
What Feature would you like to see included within TaleSpire?
As of now, the main issue I had using Talespire with my players was about the visibility of different elements, mainly minis, during battles. As I started to create more complicated map, it slowly became a real issue. I think there are a few things that could be added to make things more readable.
Create an outline for minis, that could be visible through tiles and objects. This is pretty self explanatory. Being able, both as a DM and a player, to toggle on and off this feature, helping to dicernate creatures even if they are partly obscured by the map. Obviously, it wouldn’t apply to hidden creatures. Maybe let the DM choose if the players could see creature this way, even if they are not in line of sight of the player’s character ? Additionnaly, you could let the DM change the colors of the outlines to make things even easier (putting blue outlines for allies, green for civilians, red for enemies, Fire Emblem style…).

Being able to create a list of tiles and objects that could be hidden visually. It would be like making appear or disappear a layer in a 2D graphic software or a model in a 3D animation software. Let the DM make a list of elements on the map. If the players toggle on the “improve visibility” button, those elements become invisible, or at least translucent (you might let the DM tweak that). I don’t know a lot about programming, but maybe it could also help older PC to run more detailed map by… not rendering as much details ?
What situations would this Feature be useful?
I made a forest map I was really proud of, but due to the proximity of trees, the inequality of the terrain levels, and the abondant vegetation, it was a real chore to actually use it as a battlemap. My players commented that maybe, going forward, I shouldn’t put as much landforms and details to my map… which is really sad. Adding both of those features could have help me and other DMs switch between a complete beautifull scenery, and a more simple, practical one. This is already something some games do by letting players toggle the foliage off in their settings.
And yes, I already use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen, but while this is a realy good feature for removing roof and floors of a building, it didn’t work so well for my forest…
Additional Thoughts/Details
Well, if the devs see my request, thanks for their attention. I would completely understand if those kind of features are not a priority for the team, but I really think they could contribute to make Talespire an even more easy to use experience !
