Name Visibility Toggle for Miniatures
What Feature would you like to see included within TaleSpire?
What I would like to see is a simple addition to the GM radial when interacting with minis. This addition would allow the GM to hide only the selected mini(s) name(s) so that players cannot use tab to see it.
A perfect rendition of this would offer 2 additional options: 1 for hiding names entirely, and the other for toggling between a set of 2 names.
Alternatively, a more simple toggle for the tab name display for players would be a good workaround for now. One that entirely removes the feature for them similar to how we can remove their vision of the board list.
What situations would this Feature be useful?
Players often will use the Tab name display to meta-game information that shouldn’t yet be available to them.
While there is a workaround of using generic names then naming your minis on the fly, I think it would be a great immersive feature to let the GM dictate when that information has become apparent to the party instead of the party spoiling it for themselves.
Here is an actual example from a campaign I was part of:
The party encounters a group of bandits in a hideout, when prompted if the one making the most noise is the leader the party is searching for, he acts clearly suspicious and nervous. Player 2 uses spells and roleplay to determine whether this NPC is the one they are looking for. After an interaction it is still not apparent.
After combat with the group, the party is considering executing the suspicious man. Player 2 advocates to keep him alive since they don’t know if he is the leader yet, but player 1 says firmly that he is not. When asked why the player knew, he says “well, his name is not Leader”. When asked how the character knew that, the player said he just used tab and uses it often for “his own info”.
I think it’s great that my players would like to glean information where possible, but I would prefer to control it when I can.
Additional Thoughts/Details
One of the common issues I run into with talespire is meta-gaming of information. Having detailed boards is extremely useful for the GM but even without any typing it can already be a lot of hidden volumes to deal with. Removing one more reason for the GM to type would help to streamline sessions and keep player roleplay high.
