Stuck in the place between boards / Spinning Hourglass
If you are stuck in the place between boards with no way to select/create another board or have an endlessly spinning hourglass in the main menu, this means TaleSpire is unable to properly load. Often this is caused by connection issues to either our servers or to the third party networking service Photon that we are using.
How to fix
Most often the issue is related to a restrictive network setup like a company or university network or strict firewall rules not permitting connection to our or Photon’s servers. To check whether you can reach our servers, try loading https://ts-prod-latest.dicewillsuffice.live/api/ping - the web page should load and answer with “Pong: true”. To check connection to Photon, open the Windows CMD and runping ns.exitgames.com
. If the pings time out either their servers are down for your region (https://photonengine.com/status) or your network blocks the connection.
VPNs can sometimes also cause connection issues, but especially in the case of strict network setups from companies or universities they can be used to get around some of the overzealous network blocking.
It’s still not working
If all the servers are answering correctly, but your TaleSpire is still stuck between boards or something isn’t responding but you don’t know what to do about it, create a bug report! You will be able to find extra information by checking the logs either by triple clicking in the top left corner of TaleSpire or going to Settings and click the “Open Logs and Settings folder” button at the bottom and see the log file “Player.log”. While most often it is encountered due to network setup issues, it can also happen due to other reasons and we want to fix those ASAP.
