Timed Torches
What Feature would you like to see included within TaleSpire?
What does it look like, how does it work, how is it used. Paint us a figurative picture.
As an expanded option in the radial menus for torches I would love to see the ability to turn on a torch for a set time before automatically disabling itself.
Imagine having the atmo settings making the dungeon as dark and sinister-looking as possible, only one mini is carrying a torch providing the light that keeps the unknown shadows at bay until the torch suddenly goes out when the party least expect it to and they get plunged into darkness as the GM cackles as they start dragging monsters into the room to attack!
Imagine the feeling of dread knowing that the torch may go out at any moment.
What situations would this Feature be useful?
Descriptions, examples, interactions with existing features - whatever you can think of to get your idea across!
So instead of being:
torch (enabled/disable)
…it would be something like:
torch (expand) > [torch (enabled/disable), torch (1 minute), torch (30 minutes), torch (60 minutes)]
Additional Thoughts/Details
This would be excellent for situations where the GM intends to add tension using darkness or to just have a timer with a visual cue to keep track of time so they don’t have to. Timers, in general, can help speed up play since players tend to act more snappy with their decisions when under time-pressure which aids in game sessions feeling more productive and respectful of everyone’s time, the session itself feels more exciting so enabling a GM to utilize such things easier would be great for the hobby overall, in my opinion. Also having the visual of a torch suddenly going out in a 3d environment could be one of those small little things that stand out in a VTT like Talespire compared to others.
Side-note: Also figure it would be worth asking for a atmo filter that uses a stronger contrast so dungeon maps can appear darker and hard to see while making it much easier to see with the in-game light sources enabled. As it stands now, I have players struggling to see anything even with torches on when I try make the dungeons darker. And when I make the dungeons not dark, they can see everything fine regardless of the torch feature.
